Competition is quite
fierce in the vintage porn niche. For starters, you’ve got the fact that
it’s not exactly everyone’s cup of tea, and then there’s always the
problem that you can’t actually generate fresh content yourself so
you’re reliant on out-collecting everyone else. A couple of indicators
of how well a site will fare are usually how far back its material
stretches (if there’s nothing before 1900, beware) and how much variety
there is to the offering. Judging by what’s promised at Vintage Cuties,
it’s going to be well ahead of the game on both those scores.
In fact the earliest photos here are from around 1850, and the oldest
videos are from the turn of the twentieth century, which is more than
respectable (unlike the photos and videos themselves, of course). The
videos are all dated, while the photos are lumped into broader eras.
There are lots of categories and sub-categories, which can make browsing
a bit tiresome, especially since the sub-categories aren’t consistent
for the different periods (sometimes they will narrow it down by niche,
other times all you get is a straightforward black and white or colour
selection). This extensive categorisation is perhaps justified by the
large size of the collection, however.
The content for each era is inevitably dominated by the particular forms
that pornography took at that time. So the Victorian period consists
mainly of risqué cards, then we gradually get more hardcore stuff as we
move into the twentieth century and then greater use of colour as
technology advances. Some of the stuff goes up to 1990, which is hardly
vintage by most definitions but still looks very old-hat by the latest
digital standards.
The majority of the photos are from between 1940 and 1970, with sizeable
amounts from all of the decades prior to then. There are also separate,
undated sections for pin-up art, playing cards, retro ads, vintage art,
vintage magazine covers and vintage stars. If you hadn’t guessed by now,
there’s masses to see here. The videos are mostly hardcore, a few of
them lesbian, though the MPEG videos aren’t especially big at only
320x240 resolution. A small number of non-adult movies, mostly of
various contemporary stage performances, are also available, which are
entertaining enough in their own way and potentially of interest to
those who will enjoy the main erotic content.
With two new galleries added every day and a new video every three days,
the archive is growing apace, and there are even some bonus sites,
albeit in unrelated niches. And despite the dark, slightly forbidding
design, the site itself is professionally put together and relatively
easy to navigate around. All of which makes Vintage Cuties a very
enjoyable site, and I can recommend it particularly for seekers of early
vintage stuff and playing card or poster-style material.
