‘Cartoons have never
looked this good before’ claims Anime Planet X. With naked girls
involved, there’s always a chance. It also leads you to wonder whether
this sort of porn (and eventually sex) will ever properly take over from
the ‘real’ thing, or whether we will hold out against this final
virtualisation of human existence.
First things first, this is a photo-only site. The absence of video
presents the obvious challenge: to maintain a site based purely on what
is essentially make-believe through images alone (for some reason I
envisage most fans of this kind of stuff enjoying the videos in
particular). Importantly, though, the girls do look like girls here.
There isn’t always the sophistication and nuance you might expect from a
pictures-only site, but some of the work is definitely impressive.
The pictures are separated into fetish, requests, anime, guests, sci-fi,
coeds, holidays and voyeur categories. The largest of these sections is
anime, the smallest is holidays, though in fact the labels are a bit
spurious (the voyeur category, for example, doesn’t really reflect the
fetish, as it just contains some images of the computer-generated girls
showering or even posing). Occasionally it’s apparent that the same
graphics have been used for two or three similar-looking galleries, but
overall the variety is reasonable.
Sometimes the backgrounds are totally plain, other times they use quite
sophisticated renderings (such as in the holidays) section. The fetish
stuff is quite interesting (the backgrounds are particularly excellent
for those images), and quite a few different fetish elements are
employed like stocks, bondage and so on. There is a small amount of
lesbian and hardcore stuff, but apart from that there isn’t anything
sexual here. In fact the boy-girl content seemed largely to be an excuse
to show the males performing in the most insanely implausible angles you
can imagine.
One disappointment is the size of the images, which at 800 pixels (640
for the older ones) isn’t especially large. The quality of the graphics
is reasonable, but as we move ever closer towards photo-realistic
computer games - and that’s motion picture remember - I was left with
the feeling that this was a bit of a one-man-with-a-3D-package effort.
Nonetheless this is a varied and interesting collection, and it’s
growing at a good rate too thanks to updates every other day.
